1838 - Zygmunt Krasiński

Beyond question, one of the greatest poets of the era of Polish romanticism. His work is strongly marked by macabre elements, an obsession with suffering and forebodings of doom. School pupils know very well the dilemmas faced by Baron Henryk in the “Un-divine Comedy”,  which bear out the romantic ethos of the struggle for national liberation. One of Poland’s three great bards, along with Adam Mickiewicz and Juliusz Słowacki, he visited Książ Castle in 1838. It is possible that the castle was an inspiration which influenced one of his later works.
