In its native habitat, this fern grows in shaded forests covered by tree trunks. An older spleenwort can grow between 60 to 90 cm. The leaves are light green and arched, with sharp endings and a pronounced midrib. It is on the list of endangered species of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
