Citrus myrtifolia
English name: Myrtle-leaved orange tree
Latin name: Citrus myrtifolia
Family: Rue (citrus) - Rutaceae
Origin: Malta, Libya, Italy
This fragrant orange tree is small, growing to a height of about 3 metres. The leaves are small and shaped like myrtles, hence the species’ name. The fruits are miniature oranges, close to the size of mandarins. They are, however, bitter and sour. In Italy, its bitter orange flavour is used in certain alcoholic drinks.
