The parodia warasii has a spherical habit, usually growing singly, and rarely growing offshoots. With age the stem expands and takes on the shape of a column 60 cm. tall by 30 cm. in diameter. The golden yellow thorns are short and densely grouped at the tops of the ribs. The flowers are large and yellow, with glossy petals, reaching a diameter of 6 cm. They appear in summer on the tops of the stems. The plant is on the list of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES), designated as threatened with extinction.
