The 'tricolour' blushing bromeliad is an epiphytic evergreen perennial with leaves arranged in a rosette. In its centre, a funnel-shaped container holds water and organic substances. The plant produces oblong glossy leaves which grow up to 45 cm. long; in the 'Tricolor' cultivar there are long yellow and green stripes. When it flowers, the centre of the rosette is red. The flowers are inconspicuous and purple.
