This is a small evergreen perennial, growing up to 20 cm. in height and 30 cm. In breadth.  Tufts of grasslike leaves grow from its short rhizome stems. At the end of its shoots grow white or purple flowers, clustered in inflorescences. In countries with mild climates, ophiopogon planiscapus is planted in gardens as ground cover.
