This succulent is endemic to a very small area. Its leaves are grey-green, growing even to 60 cm. long. The small, scarlet flowers cluster in inflorescences above the leaves. They flower in the summer. In a favourable, warm climate, the airplane plant may be grown in gardens and containers.
