Fascicularia bicolor
English name: Fascicularia bicolor/Sun bromeliad
Latin name: Fascicularia bicolor
Family: Bromeliad - Bromeliaceae
Origin: Chile
Sometimes called the sun bromeliad, this epiphyte grows naturally on tree trunks. The leaves are long, stiff, and serrated on the edges. The plant forms rosettes, and becomes denser with growth. The leaves are grey-green in colour, and grow up to 1 metre. At the end of the summer, the base of the leaves at the centre of the rosette turns colour, becoming a deep red. From the rosettes there grows a short, compact inflorescence of blue flowers.
