Canarian Ivy is an evergreen vine that grows to 20-30 metres in length. The leaves of the ‘Gloire de Marengo’ cultivar are shiny, green with irregular white margins, and variegated, up to 15 cm. long, with red petioles. On barren stems, the leaves have indistinct lobes, whereas they are narrow and usually whole on blooming stems. The flowers are small and greenish-yellow. The fruit is a black drupe. In countries with a mild maritime climate, it is used  both as a ground cover, and as a climbing plant. In climates like Poland’s, it is suitable only for growing in greenhouses or as a potted plant.
