This species features a rosette of sharply pointed leaves with characteristic long, white fibres. The inflorescence that grows from its rosette reaches a height of 2.5 metres, with yellow leaves. The plant blooms in the autumn and winter.
The thread leaf agave may be grown in homes, but is not especially common. During the summer, it may be kept outdoors, where it benefits from more light and higher temperatures.
